DANISH FOR CHILDREN

Would you like yourself or your child to hear more Danish, speak more Danish and maybe even read and write more Danish? Would you like to give yourself or your child a better knowledge of Danish traditions and culture? Keep reading because here is what The Danish Church has to offer to both children and adults.

THREE CLASSESDanish for Children has three classes by level:
  • The Little class is for children from 4 - 7 years old. The children must be able to understand some Danish.
  • The Middle class is for children who speak some Danish, but need to get better and learn to read and write.
  • The Extended class is for children who both speak, read and write Danish.
TEACHERS / EDUCATORSAll classes are taught by competent teachers who work to level the teaching according to the individual student.

Danish for Children occasionally looks for new teachers. If it is of interest to you, please contact the office. If you want to be a temporary teacher, we would  also love to hear from you.


EXPECTATIONS FOR THE PARENTS

It is expected that the children understand some Danish as the teaching takes place in a mixture of Danish and English. We strive to teach in Danish as much as possible.

In addition, it is expected that parents actively support the children with homework and help in the classes sometimes.PURPOSEThe purpose of Danish for Children is to give children with relation to Denmark the opportunity to learn, maintain and develop the Danish language both orally and in writing. Throughout the course, the children will also learn about Danish culture, history, geography and Danish traditions.In order to optimize the benefits of the teaching, the students will get homework from time to time.


WHERE AND WHEN

The school year begins in February and ends in December. There are 10 classes through out the year (except July and January). Teaching takes place on the second Sunday of each month from 10:45am-1:30pm at the Danish Church, 33-35 Hillcrest Road, Pennant Hills.

New students are welcomed at any time.

PRICEThe price for an entire school year is $200 for the first child and $180 for subsequent siblings. This is payable in advance.WHILE WE WAIT

Most parents choose to stay around the church while teaching is going on. They choose to  'hygge' with conversations and coffee in the garden.

It is also possible to borrow Danish children’s books and films from the library of the Danish Church in the basement.In any case, Danish for Children is also an opportunity for parents to meet and make new acquaintances.
